Description
Permethrin Cream 5% is a topical medication used to treat scabies and certain types of head lice infestations. It contains the active ingredient permethrin, which belongs to a class of drugs known as pyrethroids. Permethrin works by paralysing and killing the mites or lice responsible for the infestation, providing relief from itching and discomfort.
Usage Instructions:
- Scabies Treatment:
- Adults and children over 2 months old: Apply the cream to the entire body from the neck down, including the soles of the feet. Make sure to cover all skin surfaces.
- Leave the cream on for 8-14 hours, usually overnight.
- After the recommended time, wash the cream off thoroughly with warm, soapy water.
- Reapply the cream after 7 days if necessary.
- Head Lice Treatment:
- For head lice, apply the cream to clean, dry hair and scalp.
- Leave the cream on for 10 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Comb the hair with a fine-toothed comb to remove dead lice and nits (eggs).
- Repeat the treatment after 7-10 days if live lice are still present.

Warnings:
- For External Use Only: Permethrin Cream is for external use on the skin and scalp only. Do not ingest or apply to open wounds or mucous membranes.
- Allergic Reactions: If you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.
- Eye Contact: Avoid contact with eyes. If accidental eye contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
- Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a healthcare provider before using Permethrin Cream if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Children: Use with caution in children under 2 months old. Follow your healthcare provider's guidance.
- Storage: Store Permethrin Cream at room temperature and keep it out of reach of children.
- Other Medications: Inform your local GP of all medications you are currently taking, as certain drug interactions may occur.
